Clevedon Hall – a rich history of business success

Clevedon Hall was originally built by Conrad William Finzel, a German-born businessman who had come to Bristol to escape Napoleon’s empire. Finzel made his fortune in sugar refining, using his own patented process.

The Hall was designed by Foster and Wood, a firm of Bristol architects, and constructed in Mendip and other local stones.

With Dutch gables, a large orangery and conservatory, the Hall also has a 19th Century French tower. The story goes that Conrad used to stand in the tower looking out for traders sailing up the Bristol Channel. He would then sail out to meet them in the waters and trade with them before they reached his competitors in Bristol!

The luscious and spacious grounds are a pleasure to walk through, giving delegates and colleagues the chance to recharge their batteries. The gardens include many varieties of shrubs and trees, as well as wildlife such as red deer, pheasants, foxes and herons.

Create an impression with a unique space

Many original features of the mansion survive, including Victorian fireplaces, carved and paneled oak, and a grand staircase leading to a gallery that runs right around the Great Hall.

With a majestic Grand Library and architectural oddities such as a secret underground vault, Clevedon Hall is a fascinating and distinctive venue that will be remembered by colleagues and clients alike.
